Do you love it? Do you loathe it? I really wanted to hate her at the beginning of this season but now

not only am I sort of rooting for her, I have also developed a strange obsession with her haircut.

I am about five minutes away from running to my stylist and begging for this do. But is it too severe? Is it too Maude Lebowski? Am I the only person who gives a rats ass about the hair of a quasi-celebrity from a basic cable reality show?

(Like how I can turn a post about some woman's hair into a post about me?)

Oh, and remember that one time when she fell down during the challenge on the Navy ship? That was HILARIOUS.

I just like bringing that up. I have the sense of humor of a five year old.

Whatever. I can't even remember what I was talking about.

So seriously, I leave you with two questions: 1) Is Lisa going to win this thing and 2) Should I get this haircut?

Ah, celebrity publicists. The deniers of all the best rumors and the keepers of all the best secrets. They usually provide us bloggers with little more than boring "official statement" boilerplate for us to cut-and-paste at the end of an AWESOME POST about someone being pregnant with clones of all five Spice Girls just to let everyone know that the story IS technically being denied or no-commented, yawwwwn.

Buzzkills, all of 'em.

Except for Michele Elyzabeth, Heather Mills' former publicist. She sent a statement over to Extra to basically go and undo all the damage control she's attempted to spin for Mills during her FOUR-YEAR tenure as publicist for one of the world's most-disliked "celebrities."

After working for Heather Mills for four years, I have decided to cease
representing her. Since her divorce has become final, in my opinion,
Heather has become an impossible person.

"No shit," you're thinking. But wait! There's more!

Yesterday, we engaged in a heated argument during which she called me
"stupid." I reminded her that she was not "God" and she answered, 'I
will never ever talk to you again.' I have been very patient in my
dealings with Heather, however, I cannot take any more. I have given
her substantial unpaid time and attention. I am owed money. I refuse to
be subjected to her outbursts.

On reflection and given the
way I have been treated, I now have sympathy with much of what the
British press have reported about her.

Best. Publicist. Cut-and-paste. Ever.

Rumors are swirling that Matthew Broderick' stepped out on his wife of 11 years, Sarah Jessica Parker, while she was filming the big screen adaptation of "Sex and the City."

The other woman in question is claimed to be a 25-year-old youth worker whom Broderick met in a Manhattan bar last November. The pair's affair reportedly lasted until February.

This isn't the first time we've heard this rumor; people have been whispering about Broderick's infidelity for months now. It is claimed that Broderick was seen carrying wine and flowers to the woman's apartment. His spokesperson issued a simple, non-denial "no comment" regarding the matter.

While Broderick has starred in a couple of Broadway plays, "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying" and "The Producers" (costarring Nathan Lane) his star isn't nearly as bright as that of Parker's. Is this just another case of a man who can't handle having a more successful wife?

So imagine my delight when I found that I was not alone in my non-shame regarding classics I never even came close to reading:

New York Magazine Online ran an article this week about confessing your cultural secret shames. It was based on an article in The Times of London that challenged authors to confess the classic that, uh...was mysteriously checked out of the library every time they went to borrow it, can you BELIEVE IT??? Of course, this topic begs for confessions, and soon tomes such as To Kill A Mockingbird were named as books that never had the binding cracked. The next logical step was film, and immediately Citizen Kane and The Godfather were deemed not Neflix-worthy.

My people! I had always hidden my secret shame of writing term papers on books that I never read, stating the excuse that I had ramen to buy, people, and I simply couldn't be buying The Sun Also Rises or The Grapes of Wrath when I had other things to spend my pennies on, which may or may not have included US Weekly and really cute pants. Of course, the time I then spent at the library frantically scanning literary essays discussing said books surely overshadowed the time it would have taken to actually read the book, but that's neither here nor there.

And what do we do when a wine-infused conversation leads to a passionate discussion of which was better, the first or second Godfather or how Casablanca was the epitome of cinema, when we might have forgone those to rent Center Stage for the fourth time? We LIE. This is what we do. We lie, and we nod seriously, and suddenly have a beverage to re-fill. It's just like the term paper. Cultural shame can be a mortifying thing. Self-preservation of Cool or the need to keep up your GPA prevails. But we are not alone. So, to the surprise of absolutely no one, here it comes:

Use the comments to admit your cultural shame. Books, film, music, anything that you feel red-faced that you never have experienced, or never wanted to. Bonus points if you've written papers about the books, extra bonus points if you received high marks and praise on said paper. (Uh...King Lear, since you asked).

Confession does a soul good, betches. Hit those comments!

Hiro. Adorable. Saves the world. Good with sword. WANT TO CUDDLE.

Am sorry! Could not fit them all in! Alton Brown was excluded, because a spatula is not really all that geeky (is it?) and because he WILL be included in a future Hot Foodies edition. The mens and wimmins of Chuck, X-Files, etc? On hold for future sci-fi/action editions. Seth Green? David Tennant (nom nom nom)? DITTO.

Well, it wasn't really a cage match but it was a lawsuit. And Barbie did win.

A Federal jury ruled last week, after a 6 week trial, that the Bratz dolls had been designed by a toy designer who was working for Mattel at the time. Damages will be determined at a later time, but they are expected to be huge. Besides monetary damages, Mattel could win the rights to produce the incredibly lucrative (but slutty and inappropriate) Bratz dolls.

Who knew dolls could be so mad at each other? Can't we all just get along?

The $500 million per year Bratz line is owned by tiny toy upstart MGA Entertainment. But, the designer of the line was employed by Mattel, and had an exclusivity contract, when he sold the idea to MGA. MGA argued he came up with the concept of the dolls during a brief stint when he was not working for Mattel. Things went downhill in the trial for MGA when it came out that he had used a computer program called the “Evidence Eliminator” to, well, eliminate evidence on his laptop.

No, I can not believe anyone could be stupid enough to name something that either. Couldn't they have called it something a little less obvious?

The designer reached a settlement with Mattel for an undisclosed amount prior to the start of the trial.

You know what I would like to see come out of this case? No Bratz dolls again, ever.

This amazing picture is of Delia Derbyshire who, aside from having an awesome and alliterative name, is greatly responsible for the awesome theme music of the classic 60s sci-fi series Dr Who.

Derbyshire died in 2001 and when folks were sorting through her belongings, they found nearly 300 tapes of music in her attic that she had worked on during her time with the BBC.

Among the tapes is a piece she recorded in the late 60s. Derbyshire brushes the piece off at the beginning and says, "Forget about this, it's for interest only." What follows is, quite simply, one of the first dance tracks ever recorded. It sounds incredibly current, like you could hear it while out at a club this weekend.

Listen!

Not surprisingly, dance music is a genre that women have had a rough time breaking into, either as producers or DJs, and is dominated mostly by men. Hopefully, the idea that a woman helped to invent the genre will rewrite the history and carve out a better path for its many female devotees.

What you are seeing here, betches, is a pedicure. What you are not seeing is my gag reflex kicking in, but you're only missing out on that because I am behind a computer screen.

It surprised me exactly not at all to read that this pedicure, where fish eat the dead skin off your feet (OMG, GROSS), is taking off in DC, where people have entirely too much money. CNN talked to John Ho, who co-owns a spa with his wife in the DC 'burbs.

He said he wanted to come up with something unique while finding a
replacement for pedicures that use razors to scrape off dead skin. The
razors have fallen out of favor with state regulators because of
concerns about whether they're sanitary.

Ho was skeptical at first about the fish, which are called garra rufa
but typically known as doctor fish. They were first used in Turkey and
have become popular in some Asian countries.

...

Ho said the hot water in which the fish thrive doesn't support much
plant or aquatic life, so they learned to feed on whatever food sources
were available -- including dead, flaking skin. They leave live skin
alone because, without teeth, they can't bite it off.

PUMICE. STONE. Look into it, John. Seriously. Use a new one each time if you must. Please don't feed me to carp! Nothing is worth that! I'm queasy just re-reading this CNN piece. See what I go through for you betches? I was almost tempted to go do this so I could bring you a firsthand account, but I don't have $50 and I will not feed my feet to fish. We need a field correspondent around here. In the meantime, we'll have to rely on reports from Ho's clients, via CNN: "best pedicure I ever had;" "first time somebody got rid of my calluses completely;" "a little ticklish, actually." Again: not worth it. Don't care.

And to convince you how very not worth it this is, I leave you with this final bit of horrifying information:

The communal pool also presented its own problem: At times the fish
would flock to the feet of an individual with a surplus of dead skin,
leaving others with a dearth of fish.

My work here is done.

source
